The Indian Ministry of Defence has issued letters to two of the six vendors competing in the Indian Air Force tender for 126 Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA), asking them to extend the validity of their commercial bids.
The Eurofighter Consortium and Dassault Aviation are the believed to have received these letters, meaning that in effect their respective aircraft, the Typhoon and the Rafale, are the aircraft that have been short-listed for the the estimated USD 10 billion contract.
The other aircraft that were entered into the competition, namely the F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Super Hornet, MiG-35 and JAS-39 Gripen did not pass the technical evaluation conducted by the Indian Air Force and were therefore eliminated.
